Can Acne Be Contagious?

Introduction And Background

Acne is a skin condition where a person suffers from inflammatory spots or bumps on the skin which accumulate on a specific area giving the skin a rather deformed or bumpy look. It mostly contains blackheads, whiteheads and pustules and pimples as well. There are many levels of acne. Some people experience just a few pimples, experiencing mild acne while the severe acne is a bit of problem because it can be seen clearly and healing it is hard and takes a really long time. Acne scarring can also occur because of this. Knowing all these details only shows why the world is so scared of getting acne. It isn’t a wonder that teenagers lose their self esteem because of having acne on their faces. A lot of people leave swimming because they have acne on some body part and they’re afraid to show it! It is quite a condition. However, the question remains whether or not acne can be transferred from one person to the other.

Is Acne Contagious?

Let’s get right to it. Acne is not at all contagious. There have been reports of several people getting acne living under the same house or acne being common in a family but that is not because it is contagious, it is because acne is hereditary. If acne was contagious, every teenager on the planet would be getting it at the same time. Most people confuse acne’s bacteria as being able to travel to the skin of the other person where it could have the same reaction. This is not how it happens. When we get a pimple or pustule, or several for that matter (in case of acne), it is because of the reaction the body has given to that particular bacteria. The inflammation that occurs and the pus that forms is in fact dead cells since the body has already dealt with that bacteria and made it impossible to infect anyone else.

Is Acne An Infection?

No, acne is not an infection. Some people treat it as an infection because they think that they’ll get acne if they use the same tools that acne ridden people have used. For instance, the cosmetic make up brush or the powder patches for the skin. Many think that they have developed acne because they used the brush of the person who has acne. In reality, it is just the plain unhygienic conditions or the cosmetics itself which could have caused the problem. And if someone is using other people’s stuff, it goes to say a lot about their personal hygiene. So thinking that acne is an infection is wrong. People do get acne because of using unclean stuff and not taking proper care of their skin but thinking it happened because of another person who has acne would be wrong.

Can Acne Be Passed On To Another Person By Direct Contact?

No, acne cannot be passed to another person by direct contact or even indirect contact! Even if your own cheek or face is touching the cheek or the face of the person who has acne, you still won’t get it. Acne is not an infection. It is not contagious.

What Causes Acne?

If acne is not contagious and it is not an infection then the question would be about the causes of acne, that what really triggers it into coming. There are several reasons why a person can get acne. Some get acne because it is in their genes. If their parents had it, most likely they will have it too. Some have it starting off as a simple case of pimples which, when not taken care of, turned into a case of acne. Change in the hormonal balance of the body also causes acne which is one of the main reasons why it is so common in boys and girls during the stages of puberty. The body is evolving and the reactions tend to set off a reaction which affects the skin. Clogged pores also cause acne.

Is There A Cure For Acne?

Yes, there is. There is no simple cure for acne and it may take a lot of time for the skin to heal but acne can be cured. Eating the right diet, drinking a lot of water and taking general good care of the skin will make the acne disappear. Also take good care to notice what kind of face washes you are using and try to shift to ones that are specifically for people who have acne. It is also advisable to visit a doctor who can recommend dermal creams. And if you want to use something natural, turn to the herbal supplements for acne treatment. They really help, give nutrition to the skin and are also beneficial for the health since they are made from herbs.
